Grandma and Grandpa Were Here!

Scott's parents were here at the end of the month.  Since I had so much work to do to get myself ready for school to start it was excellent timing!  They were here for a few days before my trip to Homer and the whirl of the last days of summer and first days of school.  I so appreciated being able to work without the kids for a few days.  They are excellent helpers, but it is nice to fully immerse yourself in your preparations as well.

One of the things we did those few days was take a boat trip.  It was a fishing trip really, but turned into a sightseeing trip when we had a little engine trouble and had to spend most of our day limping back to Whittier.  It was so beautiful...it was hard to feel disappointed!  The girls each caught a rockfish before we had to head home, so that put them in good spirits!

The kids had lots of adventures with Grandma & Grandpa.  One day while Scott was working we checked out the new hot spot in Anchorage, Get Air.  It's a bit spendy, but totally fun and worth it in my opinion.  It's not an every day stop, but it will be a fun winter treat when we feel like we haven't been outside in eons!  Scott and the girls took Grandma and Grandpa up to Hatcher Pass, down to the SeaLife center and to points in between.  There were also visits to the zoo and the conservation center.  Since I wasn't along for lots of those adventures I don't have pics to share, but I assure you there were lots of smiles!  Thanks so much for visiting!

Gymnastics

Hello there!  It's been a while, but we've been busy!  The girls participated in a gymnastics camp at the beginning of August and it was such fun to watch them stretch themselves and try new things.  We put a lot of miles on the car, had several picnics, and mama got a chance to have a few afternoons on my own.

The last day of the camp the kids did a little exposition of their skills, which was so much fun to watch!  The girls did beam routines, bar routines, and floor routines.  They were very proud to show off their skills!

We stopped a few times on the way home to play in the water.  It was a very warm week and we found that a little water time helped the girls chill out a bit after three hours of camp.  They were very tired by the end of the week...and so was I!

Because we're crazy we signed the girls up to take classes this fall.  They both wanted to do it very much so Scott and I decided to give it a whirl.  Class is once a week for an hour on Saturdays, so we can work around that!  Their first class was today and they had a blast.  Kelsey is already planning her trip to the Olympics....

Homer

I was in Homer the week before last for teacher inservice.  Our inservice has some team building time built into it, so we got a chance to step away from the training and just hang out together.  It was great!  Our team spent part of the time working and part of it playing.  Wednesday was my birthday and a group of us went across the street to AJ's Steakhouse to see Hobo Jim.  I saw Hobo Jim for the first time last summer in Homer on my birthday and really enjoyed his music.  This year he upped the ante and came to sing me happy birthday and gave me an autographed CD.  What a guy!

I took these pictures on Thursday night when we were playing...a couple of us rode our bikes from the place we were staying to the spit--Google maps says it's a 5.6 mile ride.  Thursday night I just rode one way.  Saturday afternoon I rode there and back with another teammate from Whittier and decided a need a new bike...hers was WAY less work than mine!

I expect to see Pippi Longstocking every time I go past this...

What's a trip to Homer without some pretty sunset pictures?  These are from the yard where we were staying.

On Saturday night we had a little campfire...

We headed home on Sunday morning.  We had teacher work days at school on Monday and Tuesday and school started Wednesday.  It was a busy week, but a fun one too.  Looking at that campfire makes me want to eek the last hours of summer out that we can.  S'more anyone?

We've been doing LOTS of driving this week.  The girls have been in a gymnastics camp in the afternoons, so we've been driving back and forth to town every day.  Tomorrow is their last day, but I have to work both days at market this weekend and then go back in on Monday for everyone to go to the dentist.  Fun!!
