Another Alaskan Weekend

You might live in Alaska if your weekend agenda includes ice skating on the outdoor rink, playing the snow, sledding, and snowshoeing. Of course, you might live in Montana, upstate New York or Michigan, too! But it's Alaska for us and our weekend included all of the above!

Saturday found me snowshoeing with friends in the mid-day, then skating with the girls at the rink.

On Sunday we headed out in the afternoon for an outing with a friend of ours. We headed down to the rink where we did everything BUT skate! The upside of an ice rink is that it's one place in town where an 18 month old little boy can get around by himself. The snow's not so deep there, so it's much less frustrating.

All in all it was a fun and relaxing weekend. Unless you're Scott. Then it was a weekend filled with being stuffed up, coughing, aching, tired, and otherwise all around miserable. He's on antibiotics now, so hopefully he'll be feeling better soon!

Quilts in the Works

Last year I shared the quilts I made for Lullaby Quilts. Lullaby Quilts distributes quilts to babies in the NICU at St. Vincents hospital where Kelsey was born and spent some time. Each year around her birthday, I make a quilt or two to aid them in their mission...to hopefully spread some comfort to another family. Here's what's in the works for this year.

Bouncin' Bears

We had a chance to run into town yesterday with Scott, so after he ran his errands we all went to one of our favorite Anchorage winter attractions...Bouncin' Bears! Basically it's a room full of giant inflatables where you can take your kid to exhaust themselves. It worked!

On our way home we stopped in Girdwood for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Chair 5. Yummy food, family-friendly atmosphere, reasonable prices...can't ask for more!

Dress #2--Finished

Wow...I admit, I'm impressed with myself! Two dresses in two days...not too shabby. Of course, having a 3 1/2 year old at your elbow encouraging you to "sew faster, Mommy!" is motivating!

Dress #1--Finished

I did it...I got something done today! Here's Kelsey's dress. I had originally planned to make these for Christmas, but the fabric didn't arrive in time, so now they're just for fun!

Ice Skating Videos

What fun! Scott and I took the girls ice skating this afternoon, then down to the Inn at Whittier for hot chocolate. Here are the ladies on ice!

Crafting Attention Deficit Disorder

I have diagnosed myself with Crafting Attention Deficit Disorder. Why else would I have two quilts in progress and then cut out and start sewing dresses for the girls? Oh yeah...I guess I could be just plain old crazy!! Here's hoping I finish *something* this weekend, but here's part of what's in the works right now!

first day at home 2/06

January '07

I was just browsing through pictures from the last few years and found these two. Look at that blanket! It's still around...but much faded. It remains a much loved companion, but she has been known to fall asleep without it occasionally recently and not miss it. Guess she's growing up! When I saw these pictures I realized how much more colorful it used to be...

Ice Skating

One of the things going on in Whittier while we were gone was the creation of the Whittier Community Ice Rink. Sounds fancy, huh?? We're pretty excited about it! Several community members worked to shovel off and flood the basketball court at the city park. Goodness knows it's been plenty cold since we got back...no thawing danger thus far!

The girls and I ventured out on Saturday and went scooting around. The wind was really blowing, but we had fun for a little while! Someone has left hockey pucks and sticks there for community members to use as well.

My little amateur hockey players...

Pssst...don't tell, but I have skates for them now too! They're figure skates, not hockey skates, but I think they'll survive! :-)

Winter Wordle!

I love these sorts of things! I read on another blog how she'd made one of these word clouds at www.wordle.net. Of course, I had to try it out, didn't I?!?! It's sort of a pain because you have to make it, then take a screen shot of it, paste it to a graphics program, then crop it, save it

Our Visit--Week two in Battle Ground

After a week of fun in Washougal, we packed up on New Year's Eve and headed to Battle Ground to stay with Scott's family. The girls went to their first wedding with Grandma & Grandpa Moo on the 1st and we celebrated Christmas with the Korbes on January 2.

Of course, the highlight of our Battle Ground stay was the farm and its chores. Kelsey spent hours with her beloved chickens, and Stacy warmed up a bit to them this time as well. They also spent lots of time feeding the cows and something new this time; playing on the stacked bales of hay in the barn. While we were in Washougal we made a trip to Yacolt to go horseback riding with some friends. In Battle Ground we got treated to another session on horseback at Grandma & Grandpa's neighbors. I'm not sure who had more fun...the girls riding or the adults watching!

Our Visit--Week One in Washougal

We're home! We had a great trip down south, but we're all glad to be home as well! I've started to write this post twice now this morning, but both times have gotten bogged down in all of the traveling details. Let's just say this...the day of coming down and the day of going home were long. My idea of what's "worth it" in terms of ticket prices and flying into Portland may have shifted some! The girls were great, we got lucky in terms of traffic, and had great traveling companions. It just makes for a long day with little ladies.

Once we arrived in Washougal though, we forgot all about the traveling! The girls were thrilled to meet my parent's new dog, Dexter. He's a kiddo dog for sure, endlessly patient with their petting, playing, and pestering. Molly and Steeler proved equally patient, Molly even put up with several brushings from the kids. On Christmas Day my sister brought her two kittens in to visit...I'm not sure who got more exercise, the kids or the cats! Our days in Washougal were filled with playing with toys, playing with pets, trips to the dog park, time out in the sandbox, visiting friends and family. And me...playing with my new Cricut!
