Happy Thanksgiving!

This marked our first real "wintry" weekend at the cabin.  It was COLD inside when we arrived, just how cold we don't know because we realized later that our thermometer doesn't go below 32 for an indoor temperature.  We've since gotten some non-digital models that remedy that issue, though not knowing may have been better!  We know it was cold enough that when we were making hot drinks to warm up after unloading and getting the generators going we spilled some water on the counter and it froze nearly instantly.  It was below zero outside so....chilly!

We enjoyed a weekend of quiet and slow days.  Rather than prepare a huge feast for us all, we spread the traditional meal out over several days.  Turkey and wild rice one day, leftover turkey and green bean casserole another day, etc.  It was a great way for us to celebrate without making total pigs of ourselves!

One fun thing we did was to shovel off part of the lake for a skating rink.  There was about a foot of powdery snow that we removed.  Hopefully we can keep up with it all winter...the girls sure had fun skating!

We also decorated gingerbread houses, a tradition that started at the lake several years ago.  A bit bittersweet to continue the tradition without our dear friends, but still fun as well.

One of our adventures was to melt snow for water!  We had taken home enough jugs to haul water from Whittier for a 2-day weekend, but not a 4-day weekend.  We saved Whittier water for drinking and cooking and melted snow for washing dishes.  Always an adventure at the cabin!
