While we were down in Washington this summer, my uncle gave the girls one of these "Make Your Own Chocolate" kits. I tucked it away for a rainy day and if you've looked at our weather lately you'll know that we've had plenty of rainy days in the past week. I pulled it out on Saturday and we made chocolate!
Luckily the directions are on the web site because I somehow misplaced those...yikes! The kit comes with two raw cacao beans and tells you how to peel them. The kids were so excited, even though I warned them that they wouldn't be yummy because there was no sugar!
Don't you just love Kelsey's, "You were right, Mom! Eww!" face? They both spit it out! We heated, stirred, heated, coooled, stirred, and finally plopped them into the little paper cups that came with the kit. We decided to fancy our chocolates up a bit with some kosher salt, marshmallows, and toasted almonds.
These little treats were not only fun, but yummy too! It was a good way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon. Thank you, Uncle Carl!
