I honestly do not know how people with more kids do it, but my hat is off to them! How you can handle 3, 4, 5 sick kids is beyond me. I am certain that it is no less heartbreaking. Often mama is the last one to get whatever bug works through this family. This time however, I was first and I can't help but think it was a good thing. This bug is not fun. It's the "common" cold, but this version is not so common. It's just downright nasty and miserable. I'll spare you the mucus-y details but I will say that it comes with one of the worst sore throats I've ever had. It hurts. Bad. So when Kelsey started talking about a sore throat I understood exactly what "My throat hurts, Mom." meant. We tried to keep her busy this weekend and keep her mind off of it a bit, while also allowing her plenty of down time to rest and convalesce. Here are some moments from our weekend...
Friday night's 200 piece puzzle...
From my walk on Saturday...
Scott teaching Stacy to play cribbage on Sunday morning...
Kelsey reading the scripture reading at church for the first time...
Today Kelsey made it for a couple of hours at school before she asked me to come get her. One of the benefits of living across the street from the school! At home she rested, played a Wii game we had borrowed from some friends, read books, wrote letters, and then asked to bake. I can never say no to a little girl who wants to cook, so she chose these muffins and she was off. She did it almost by herself! Though I hate it that she is feeling crummy, it was fun to spend some one on one time with her today!
And just for fun, here's a picture of the icecicle that has formed between the storm window and the interior window in the girls' room. We plunged into a cold snap on Friday night and we've been running our humidifiers at night to help us all breathe more easily. File this one under "only in Whittier..."! I ran a fan in our room all day, working to defrost the window there.
Hope you all had wonderful weekends! May the sniffles, coughs and sore throats stay far from your homes!
