Easter!

Oi!  Like many other folks, I think Easter snuck up on me a bit, coming so early this year.  Last year it fell on Stacy's birthday at the end of April!  This year we tried something new and went over to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center egg hunt.  Wow!  What a great event!

It began with stories...

Got our wiggles out with "the chicken dance"...

Followed by a puppet show and a visit from Snickers the porcupine who was all decked out for Easter...

They provided lunch for everyone and then we hunted for the eggs...

Finally we wrapped the day up with a hay ride where we sat next to an intern who taught us all kinds of things about the animals, and we got to watch him feed the brown bears eggs and ham...

Turns out that the black bears are a bit picky, so they got salmon.  You'd think they'd love it, but apparently these bears prefer fruit.  To get them to eat the salmon the interns have to cover it in honey and granola...silly bears!

Kelsey (aka Dr. Doolittlette) was captivated by the alert and interested bears.  Often the bears are snoozing or lounging, so this was a pretty special treat!

The Easter bunny was there of course, posing for pictures with her sidekick, Snickers.  Kelsey posed with her, no problem...Stacy, not so much!

And one last shot of all three of us...

Thanks for the great fun, AWCC!  We wrapped up the day with a birthday dinner for a friend of ours...ham, spuds, fruit salad, roasted broccoli, rolls, and a blizzard cake decorated with Star Wars toys.  It doesn't get much happier than that!
